Class 1 Explosives Course                         1 Day Course

The course covers:

  • Safe loading of vehicles

  • The unloading and carriage of explosives

  • The Classification, definition & packaging and labelling of explosives

  • The necessary measures to execute in the event of an incident involving explosives

For candidates who require adding Explosives Class 1 to their current ADR licence, this course can also count as 7 hours towards the Driver CPC

What is this Unit about?

Drivers of vehicles carrying substances or articles of UN Class 1 shall attend a Specialisation training course.

This UN Class 1 Specialisation course does not cover any other aspect of the ADR course.

What should I know or be able to do before I start?

Have completed an ADR course in accordance with its relevant statutory requirements. After having sat the examination(s) and after having attended the specialisation course for the carriage of explosive material of UN Class 1 the candidate shall be allowed to take part in the corresponding examinations.

It is anticipated that those undertaking this unit will ideally have some relevant knowledge from either working in the freight logistics industry or through prior study.

What will I know or be able to do when I achieve this Unit?

On successful completion of this Unit, you should have sufficient knowledge to be able to effectively carry out your role as a driver of dangerous goods for carriage of explosive material and articles in UN Class 1 throughout the UK and Europe, as specified in the current ADR and UK Regulations. 

What does this involve?

Compulsory attendance on an approved 1 day training course will be required.

wA minimum of 8 x 45 minute Teaching Units for initial candidates

wA minimum of 3 x 45 minute Teaching Units for refresher candidates

How will this Unit be delivered?

This Unit will be delivered in accordance with the prescribed standards in a classroom environment with relevant class participation, together with the use of illustrative examples and visual aids.

The practical exercises for this course will be by means of instruction, followed by an exercise based on a written scenario and completed individually to demonstrate the ability to perform correctly.

How will I show that I have achieved this Unit?

This Unit will be assessed by multiple choice examination. You must achieve a minimum pass mark of 70%.

Any failed examination must be retaken and successfully completed with any examination passes being held for a maximum of 12 months from original notification of result.

What can I do next?

Progression routes may include further study towards specialisation courses for carriage in Tanks and/or UN Class 7.

What will I have to do?

Undertake refresher training in the year before expiry of any certificate issued if you wish to continue certification.
